For 8-13 year old students the school day starts at 8:30am and dismisses at 3:55pm. 

Students have daily classes with their homeroom teacher in the following subjects: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science/Cultural Studies .

We believe that a well-rounded education is essential for success and place a high value on our specials program. Students attend the following classes with specialized teachers: 

• Art, Music, Physical Education, Technology twice a week and Library once a week.  
• Students have Chinese, Spanish, or Intensive English extension 5 times a week.  

Main Campus is located in the heart of Seaworld located in Shekou. The campus is large and spacious provided students many wonderful places to learn. The facilities include an indoor gym, three multipurpose rooms throughout the building, an extensive library, three computer labs, two makerspaces, indoor atrium on four floors, cafeteria and a rock climbing wall. We have an outdoor playground and field located across the street from Campus used during recess and PE times. 

The Library is a favorite space at Main Campus. Families and students enjoy the wide variety of books and often use the space after school hours for studying. 8-11 year old students at Main Campus visit the library once a week to check out books to take home and enjoy. Our Library is equipped with six iPad chats that serve students for use of technology in various spaces on campus. We have a large LCD video wall display for sharing online reading resources and presentations. 

Our 11- to 13-year-old students are invited to take part in our wide selection of after-school athletics. QSI Shenzhen students are very active and we believe lessons learned outside the classroom are just as valuable as those learned during the academic school day. Great relationships are formed between students, and between students and faculty. We are a competitive school, but more important, our students regularly win Sportsmanship Awards for their teamwork, positive attitudes and politeness at tournaments.

We also offer a variety of other extracurricular activities in the form of clubs, including: drama, Model United Nations (MUN), debate, DragonTV—a student daily televised broadcast for announcements, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), Math Olympiads, and more.

Small class sizes allow teachers to provide one-on-one attention and support to students.

In the middle school and elementary program, class sizes are limited to 20 students with one homeroom teacher. 8-year-old classes have a homeroom teacher and one paraprofessional.

Main Campus staff includes 60 full-time, certified, and experienced teachers mostly from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The school has a Director of Instruction, Academic Coordinator, Counselor, Nurse, and office support staff.  

Mathematics and science courses are critical in today’s world. Like all QSI Shenzhen courses, mathematics and science textbooks are published in the United States and are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Children are scientists by nature, with inherent curiosity and enthusiasm. QSI Shenzhen courses build on this interest by combining hands-on experiences with reflective discussions, reading, writing and drawing. Students observe, measure, collect, categorize, predict, record, and interpret scientific concepts.

At the Main Campus, we offer secondary mathematics courses for students who excel in mathematics. Students are placed according to their abilities and prior knowledge in mathematics to ensure a rigorous and challenging curriculum that prepares them for their future studies in mathematics.

The Intensive English (IE) program is for 8-year-old through 13-year-old students at QSI International School of Shenzhen who are in need of special attention in verbal and written English. This program is designed to assist those for whom English is not a first language. The principle goal of Intensive English is to bring students to a level of academic English, including oral competency, which allows them to transfer to regular classes as rapidly as possible. Students enrolled in the IE program attend specialized English language classes during the daily reading and writing periods. 

Our 8-year-old through 13-year-old Reading Curriculum focuses on the students' ability to be cognitive readers who continually apply strategies when reading such as making connections, predicting, determining importance, and synthesizing. Students are exposed to a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, short story, poetry, drama, etc. Our campus has a beautiful and extensive library, and we encourage all our students to find a lifelong love for reading!

Our 8-year-old through 13-year-old Writing Curriculum closely monitors students’ progress in writing, and evaluates students on ideas, organization, word choice, voice, convention, sentence fluency, and presentation in writing. Strong academic writing is a focus of our school, and thus we measure student progress bi-annually through school-wide writing assessments.

QSI Shenzhen Main Campus currently has two language offerings: Chinese and Spanish. QSI Shenzhen provides the opportunity for students to learn Chinese from professional Chinese instructors at all levels, from beginners to native speakers. We also offer Introductory Spanish courses. Foreign language classes are held five days a week. In addition to learning a new language, each course also introduces students to the culture, history, and customs of the countries where the language is spoken.
